My job is to help folks buy and sell properties. Sometimes it does make sense to rent though.
I’ve advised folks that if they’re looking to buy and sell at the same time, it might make sense for them to rent.
That would give them better leverage on the sales side and the purchase side to have one transaction at a time. That gives them the ability to rent in the meantime.
Other reasons why you would rent is that you’re learning a new neighborhood, maybe you’re adjusting your lifestyle, or maybe you have a contracting household or expanding household.
All good reasons to rent.
Now, if you’re looking to be in one place for approximately seven years, that’s a general rule as to when you should be buying.
